Field Trip Jan 30th

Harrisburg Camera Club Fieldtrip to Gettysburg College to see the Paul Strand and Manuel Alvarez Bravo Photography Exhibition and Winter Photography at the Battlefield

This Saturday January 30th, leaving at 1:00 from the Camp Hill Arby’s

The Harrisburg Camera Club will be car pooling to see the Strand/Bravo photography exhibition at Gettysburg College on Saturday, January 30th.  We will be leaving at 1:00 and plan to return by 6:30.  I strongly encourage HCC members to attend this exhibition to see two of the pioneers of photography.  Exhibitions of photographers of this caliber are generally found in NYC, Washington D.C. or Baltimore;  rarely do they come this close to Harrisburg.   Here is the link to information about the exhibition:

We will be at the art gallery from about 2:00 to 2:30.  After the exhibition we will head out to the Gettysburg Battlefield to photograph it in the snow.  We will photograph in the park until sunset at 5:12.  The weather forecast is for partly cloudy and 42.  For those of you meeting us in Gettysburg, our first stop will be at Sachs Covered Bridge, just outside the park’s Southwestern corner park limits.  Here is my best way of telling you how to get there.  Look for the Observation Tower on West Confederate Ave. near the Eisenhower Historic Site (some maps have it as SW Confederate Ave).  This is your reference point.  From the observation tower go North to Millerstown Road, this should be within sight of exiting the Tower parking lot.  Go west on Millerstown Road.  Millerstown road becomes Pumping Station Road.  Cross the creek and take an immediate left onto Waterworks Road (may not have a sign post).  The parking area is about 200 yards down the road next to the covered bridge.  We plan to be there about 2:45.  My cell phone number is 592-9304 if you get lost.

What should you bring: a fully charged battery, extra batteries, extra digital cards, comfortable shoes or snow boots, gloves, a tripod, a longer lens and/or a wide angle lens, polarizing filter to cut glare, a ladder, cash for gas for your driver.

On another note:  Hunt's Photo in New England is running a close-out web special dropping the prices on tripods and camera bags, quantities are limited here is the link: http://www.wbhunt.com/specials/
